NEWCASTLE, August 26, 2010 - Race tactics are Kris Lees' biggest concern regarding the chances of Lacada Siren in the Castle Hill/Hager Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Lacada Siren comes into winning calculations off the back of a solid third placing at her last start over the same track and distance a fortnight ago. The daughter of Giant's Causeway, stormed home from the tail of the field to go down by three quarters of a length behind We Betcha in what was arguably a harder race than Saturday. But Lees fears that there is a lack of pace engaged on Saturday, which could hinder his five-year-old mare's chances. “I'm a bit concerned where the speed is going to come from,” he said. “There's no obvious leader and that's a worry but hopefully everyone else reads the race like that and they go harder than it looks. “If she gets a genuine tempo I think she had a good chance. “She's come on really well since the last run, her work has been great and she has come out in the coat so she's fit and healthy.” The stable's other runner for the day is the imported galloper Timetable in the Husson at Patinack Handicap (1500m). Timetable made his debut for Lees Racing three weeks ago at Randwick when he produced an even effort, finishing eighth behind Yoberg in the slow ground over 1300m. Lees said the six-year-old gelding had made pleasing progress since that run and he expects an improved performance with a good track. “He's surprised me how well he's done off that run,” he said. “First-up his condition gave way 200 metres from home so I thought he might need another one before we see the best of him but he's made more improvement than I would have expected. “He is still going to take benefit from Saturday but I wouldn't say he hasn't got a sneaky each-way chance in an even race.” |
