Kris Lees believes punters shouldn't discount the prospects of Motspur when the eight-year-old resumes in the Listed Starlight Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday. Lees said the veteran galloper has come back in outstanding order and he's expecting a bold showing first-up on Saturday. “I could not be happier with him and I reckon he's going to run a race on Saturday,” Lees said. Motspur made light work of some inferior rivals in a recent trial at Newcastle and he is a three time first-up winner in eight campaigns. “His fresh form is good and he's proven at this level,” Lees said. “There are a couple of promising horses in the race on Saturday but he is proven and while he's giving them weight, he's probably not that badly weighted. “He's got genuine each-way claims.” The stable's other runner at Rosehill is Lacada Siren in the Fairfield RSL Handicap (1400m). Lees said he's expecting a much improved performance from the five-year-old mare after she finished six lengths from the winner in a Benchmark 75 race over 1300m at Newcastle when resuming. “She needed the run first-up but she's taken plenty of benefit from it,” he said. “This does look a decent mares race but I'm expecting Lacada Siren to run a cheeky race. “She's won second-up and races well over this distance. “Motspur is the better chance of my two but it wouldn't surprise me to see both of them finish in the money.” |
